CONTACT PRECAUTIONS
Single room or functional isolation
• “C” signal on the room door if single room, on the patient unit, if in functional isolation.
The folder must NOT enter the isolation room.
• A container for medical waste at infectious risk with a dedicated lid placed inside the room or at the foot of the patient’s bed, if functionally isolated
• A special dedicated container for linen placed inside the room (close the bag before leaving the room)
• Dedicated medical devices (e.g. container for needles/cutting edges, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope, thermometer…) placed inside the room, to be sterilizedwhen the patient is discharged
• Trolley placed at the entrance of the room or at the foot of the patient’s bed functionally isolated with hydroalcoholic gel, disposable gloves, disposable gown.
• A container for medical waste at infectious risk placed near the trolley outside the room, for the disposal of used medical devices if isolated in a single room.
• Disposable food containers (to be eliminated inside the room in the container for medical waste at infectious risk).
• Transfer management: the patient must wear a protective gown. It is advisable to limit the outputs.
• Relative management: inform and train relatives / visitors on the use of PPE and advise to limit visits.
• Advise to wash the laundry at home at a temperature above 70°C.
• Do not use hand gel in patients with Clostridium difficile infection
